You can only join as a single if your spouse has their own plan. All family members eligible for the group plan must be added unless they have alternative group benefits.
How do I make changes with respect to spouse and children?
Please contact us within 31 days of any change to avoid medical (ie. Add a baby to the plan, add a spouse, etc).
Why does my dentist not accept my pay direct card?
Every dentist should accept your card. If they don’t please have them call the number on the card. Often the issue can be solved with the call. If you are forced to pay you will typically be refunded by your insurance company within 24 hours.
What do I do if the pharmacist doesn’t accept my pay direct card?
This could be caused by multiple reasons (spelling your name, date of birth) and can be solved with a call as listed on the card.
Why does my plan not cover brand name drugs?
Most plans insist on generic only. The plan will only cover the cost of generic. Some plans have the ability for the doctor to insist on brand name drugs and therefore "will be covered by your plan. All plans, if necessary, include a form for the doctor to complete to allow brand name drugs and to be covered by the plan."
Does my plan work outside of Canada?
Your plan does not work once you leave the country, however your group travel plan kicks in for emergency medical coverage only.
What if both I and my spouse have coverage at work?
You will need to fill in your co-ordination of benefits so that you can be covered by both plans or once member can waive benefits.
Can I buy more benefits than my plan offers?
You can pay for optional life, AD&D or critical illness added onto your group plan or contact us for more individual options.
Why is my child no longer covered under my family group plan?
Once your child turns 21 they can only stay on the group plan if they are a full-time student. Every year from age 21-26 you will have to provide proof of tuition in order to keep them active on the plan.
What happens when I turn 65?
Benefits continue uninterrupted; however you are no longer eligible for Long Term Disability and Life insurance is 50% of the value prior to age 65 and is zero at age 70.
Can I change my beneficiary?
A beneficiary form can always be filled out to update beneficiaries, please contact us if a form is needed.
Can different benefits be offered to each employee?
All employees can be offered different plans as long as they are divided up into different classes.
Who can be part of my family to use my h s a dollars?
Anyone related by blood or marriage, resident in Canada that you support at any time during the year.
What are the carryover provisions from year to year?
Rules are changing periodically and are often different depending the adminstrator used, but typically dollars carry forward but claims do not.
Can I buy over the counter drugs with my h s a dollars?
No. It must be dispensed by the pharmacist to be eligible.
What happens with my h s a dollars when I leave the Company?
Once the funds are received by you in Trust, they are always your funds and do not expire if you leave.
Can I claim a service outside of Canada?
All services provided by a medical practitioners will be covered outside the country.
When can my company contribute more money?
Only on your anniversary can your annual amount be adjusted (the only exception is for a major life event)
Do I need travel insurance if I have it with my employer?
Make sure to check how long and for how much you are covered with your group plan, but in most cases, you will be covered for 60 day out of country travel.
Does insurance include emergency medical and trip cancellation?
Standard travel insurance would cover emergency medical coverage only and trip cancellation can be added by contacting CEEB.
How does Covid impact the insurance?
As of 2022 there is no separate distinction for covid related illnesses.
Do I buy for a single trip or for the year multiple trips?
You can buy either or add an addition onto a trip, the annual plans are generally cost effective if you will be travelling more than once a year.
Is travel insurance medically underwritten or automatic issue?
Travel insurance is an automatic issue for travelers under the age of 60, if you are over there is a medical questionnaire to fill out that CEEB can provide.
What if I recently received a new or a changed drug or condition?
Most plans include a 60-90 day stability clause, if you are not stable you can purchase additional policies that can reduce the stability period to 7 days.
Can I get coverage for my child studying abroad?
Yes, student plans are offered to cover your child internationally for health and travel insurance.
Individual Life Insurance
What is the difference between Term and Permanent (whole life)?
Term Insurance covers an individual for a specific amount of time, typically 10/20 years and is generally more affordable. Permanent Insurance is more costly but guarantees a payout.
Why do I need insurance and is there a suggested amount?
Term - This style of insurance is generally purchased to help assist your spouse pay down a mortgage, provide help raising kids time and is typical 1x lost of earnings and the amount is typically 15x the lost annual earnings. Permanent - This style of insurance is to provide protection for your entire life rather than just over a period, it is often purchased as a legacy or if there will be a tax issue.
